Spring Reading Challenge


It is time once again for our super spectacular annual Spring Reading Challenge! 

The theme this year is the "Three Little Readers" based on the classic tale about three pigs and their levels of work effort.


There are three achievement levels:

Straw Level Reader:        
The Bare Minimum, not a lot of effort
Students who read an average of 15 minutes 4 days each week (60 minutes a week)

Stick Level Reader:
Putting Forth More Effort
K-3 Students who read an average of 15 minutes per day 7 days a week (105 minutes a week)
4 – 6 Students who read an average of 20 minutes per day 7 days a week (140 minutes a week)

Brick Level Reader:
Going Beyond Expectations
K-3 Students who read at least 25 minutes per day 7 days a week (175 minutes a week)
4-6 Students who read at least 35 minutes per day 7 days a week (245 minutes a week) 


A pink reading calendar went home on Monday, March 26 in the weekly "Monday Mailer" packet. If you did not receive a chart for each of your children please check the Monday Mailer.  If you still don't have a chart please contact Mrs. Briggs.


The rules this year are pretty simple"

  • Fill in the number of minutes you read each day. 
  • Write the number in the correct box on the calendar.  
  • Total up the minutes for the week and turn in the calendar each Friday (except April 7).
  • Have a parent initial by each total for the week.
  • You may count read aloud minutes at home and all personal silent reading.
  • The calendar will be returned each week in your Monday Mailer
  • For every level of achievement you’ll earn prizes
  • Special Prizes for the top readers in each grade. 

Challenge runs March 26 - May 12.
